Java Development Tracks | Solaris Development Track | Sys-Admin Track | Hands-on Labs

The Solaris development track will cover sessions in the following areas:

What Makes Solaris Interesting? Top

This session will take you on a technical tour of Solaris, how it relates to OpenSolaris and set the stage for the rest of the day, touching upon each of the topics you will see in this Solaris Developer Track.

Sun Studio Tools Top

This session will start by discussing how the programming paradigm is changing with the introduction of multi-core systems and how Compilers and tools interact with OS and HW design to produce a superior integrated System Product. Next, the session will talk about the three most important attributes that application developers will face in the future, and assist in providing better design choices in order to exploit the full functionality of these systems.

New Security Features in Solaris/OpenSolaris Top

After a brief review of these technologies, this session will describe new security features added after the release of Solaris 10 including Solaris Trusted Extensions, Secure by Default, IPsec, and the Key Management Framework

Parallel Application Development Top

This presentation will begin with an overview of Solaris multithread infrastructure such as kernel and user level threads and explain how to design a MultiThreaded program using Pthreads and OpenMP directives. It also explains why a race condition is a very challenging problem in parallel programming and discusses how using the right tool can lead to good design practices that can avoid race condition problems.

Solaris Networking Infrastructure Top

What is being done to make Solaris networking easier to administer and use? What projects are being worked on to make Solaris a more compelling platform for developers, administrators, and users of networking features? This presentation answers these questions by giving an overview of some of the networking infrastructure work that has been ongoing or has recently been added to OpenSolaris to address these issues. Included are projects such as Clearview, NWAM, Brussels, Duplicate Address Detection, DHCPv6 Client, and the addition of support for a variety of WiFi technologies.
